LETTER: Gas price glee will turn to grief soon enough

Gas is pumped into a motor vehicle in this file photo. When columnist Adrian White spoke to friends in Western Canada over the past few days, he learned that they were upset with voters in Cape Breton. They feel betrayed having provided employment for many Atlantic Canadian families only to have the region vote for a government not friendly to the Western resource sector.

While it may be nice to see the prices at the pumps continue to drop, the glee we feel in saving a few dollars will soon turn to grief as the long-term effects ripple through our individual pocketbooks and the Canadian economy.

If this pandemic/oil price war is not an in-your-face example of just how little say we as individuals have in our own destiny I don’t know what is.

Stay safe people.

Look after your family to the best of your ability.

Be kind to your neighbours and — having observed the actions of elected leaders at home and abroad as this crisis continues to unfold — please stop going into the ballot box and putting an X beside present and future politicians without having a clue as to why you are voting for that person.
