I was reviewing the City Guide Fall 2019 and on Page 23 under swimming lessons there was a note identifying that the Paul Reynolds Centre would be closed from Sept. 1 to Oct. 23 for pool maintenance.
What kind of maintenance takes two months to complete on a new pool that was opened on June 2017?
Six weeks after the building opened it was closed from July until September for repairs. Our learned councillor, Jamie Korab, said this wasn’t uncommon in new buildings but didn’t provide us with any evidence to support it.
Then it was closed from Nov. 9 to Dec. 14, 2018 to replace ceiling panels.
On May 10 it was closed until May 22 for mechanical issues.
Is this going to be the new norm?
Shut down a new building for two months to do maintenance? What about the lifeguards, does that mean they don’t get paid for two months?
I think the tax payers of St. John’s deserve more information than a note in the City Guide.
