I have been reading with dismay the removal of the boardwalk access to Western Brook Pond at Gros Morne and replacing it with the ugly scar of a gravel road through this previously pristine natural treasure.
How on earth could this happen under the guise of better access for visitors with disabilities? Wheelchairs, strollers and just plain walking were far better served with the boardwalk.
We have vacationed in Newfoundland several times and walking the boardwalk to the pond was a wonderful experience.
Whoever is responsible for this terrible decision should be transferred to the highway department where they can spread all the gravel they want and leave our natural treasures alone.
I feel sorry for future Gros Morne visitors unable to experience the beautiful walkway to this World Heritage site. What a shame.
