Memorial Sea-Hawks basketball star Nathan Barker is The Telegram sports department’s choice as Athlete of the Week.
Barker scored a game-high 31 points last weekend in an Atlantic University Sport basketball game at the Field House. Barker chipped in with four rebounds as the Sea-Hawks fell 86-78 to the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
The Corner Brook native is one of the few bright spots on a team that is 0-3 heading into weekend play against Acadia University. A second-team AUS all-star last season after earning a berth on the conference all-rookie team in 2016-17, Barker is the early AUS scoring leader, averaging 26 points-per-game.
He and teammate Jason Thompson are the busiest players in the league, averaging the most minutes played.
