Junior hockey player Colin O’Neill is The Telegram sports department’s choice as athlete of the week.

O’Neill helped the Mount Pearl Blades to a four-game sweep of the Trinity-Placentia Flyers in the second round of the Mary Brown’s St. John’s Junior Hockey League playoffs.

Last Sunday night, in Game 3 of the series, O’Neill scored at 8:19 of overtime to give the Blades a 2-1 win. He also assisted on Mount Pearl’s other goal.

The previous night, O’Neill collected three goals as the Blades beat the Flyers 6-2 in Game 2.

Mount Pearl will now face the CBR Renegades in the league final. The first game in the best-of-seven series is 7 o’clock tonight at the C.B.S. Arena.
