ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Triathlete Ryan Brown is The Telegram sports department’s choice as athlete of the week.

Brown won the Ironman 70.3 Calgary race in the shadows of the Rockies Sunday, first of 687 finishers in the Ironman triathlon event with a combined time of four hours and 46 seconds.

The course consisted of a 1.93 kilometre swim, 90K bike ride and 21K run.

Brown’s split times were 28 minutes and 12 seconds in the swim, 2:03.04 bike ride and 1:24.47 run.

Brown competed in the famous Hawaii Ironman last year after finishing 15th overall at the Subaru Ironman in Mont-Tremblant, Que.

He won’t compete in Hawaii this year, but is set to take part in the Ironman Arizona in Tempe in November, a qualifier for Hawaii in 2020.
