The Gonzaga Vikings will have to sit and wait before it’s determined who they will face in the St. John’s Molson Senior Baseball League final.
The Vikings clinched a berth in the league’s championship series with a 7-4 win over the Knights Monday night at St. Pat’s Ball Park.
Gonzaga took the best-of-five semifinal 3-1.
Kieran Buckingham (5.2IP, 6H, 4R, 2ER, 5BB, 3K, 1HB) pitched the win with relief help from Dave Lahey (1.1IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 1K). A.J. Whiffen (7IP, 9H, 7R, 2ER, 1BB, 4K) went the distance for the Knights, but was tagged with the loss.
Gerald Butt collected a pair of singles for Gonzaga, knocked in a run, scored a run and stole a base. Sam Prowse was two-for-two for the losers.
Meanwhile, the other series is deadlocked at a game apiece following an 8-4 Holy Cross win over Shamrocks Monday.
Game 3 goes 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Pat’s.
Sean Janes (5IP, 7H, 4R, 1ER, 2BB, 0K, 1HB) pitched the win in relief of starter Justin Crawley (2IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 1K).
Greg Barry, the first of four Shamrocks pitchers, suffered the loss.
Steve Barrett of Holy Cross and the Shamrocks’ Trevor Clarke both had two hits in the game.
Shamrocks have won the league championship the past two years, following back-to-back Gonzaga championships in 2014 and ’15.
