Megan Bennett was the heroine for Newfoundland and Labrador Friday morning at the girls’ 16-years and under invitational in Bedford, N.S., knocking in the winning run as this province outlasted New Brunswick 11-10.

Newfoundland had 14 hits in the game, with Hailey Companion, Andrea Turner, Patey Callahan and Brooklyn Childs each collecting two hits.

Childs recorded the win.

In the tournament-opener Thursday, Newfoundland and Labrador defeated Nova Scotia 2 9-7 on Maddi Healy’s two-run double in the top of the seven inning, breaking a 7-7 tie.

Andrea Turner got the win in relief.

At the Ray Carter Cup 15U championship in Oshawa, Ont., Newfoundland and Labrador fell to 1-2 Friday morning with a 13-0 loss to Manitoba. Newfoundland managed only one hit, while Manitoba pounded out a dozen.

Newfoundland was scheduled to play later Friday against New Brunswick.
