The St. John’s Molson Senior Baseball League final is down to a best-of-five affair entering Game 3 7 o’clock tonight at St. Pat’s Ball Park.
RMM Gonzaga Vikings knotted the best-of-seven affair with a well-played 2-1 win over OMT Shamrocks Thursday night.
Kieran Buckingham (7IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 4K, 1HB) pitched a gem to record the victory, while Greg Barry (7IP, 6H, 2R, 1ER, 2BB, 1K) was the hard-luck loser.
Both Gonzaga runs came on a two-run single by Peter Madden. Mike O’Neil, Gerald Butt, Andrew Paul, Matt Parsons and Chris Sparkes had the other hits for the Vikings. Dylan Mackenzie, Brent Power and Scott Stockley had the Shamrocks’ hits.
Meanwhile, in the city’s intermediate baseball final, Issac Doyle pitched a masterful one-hitter as Riverdale Storage Storm took the opening game by a 5-1 decision over Holy Cross.
Game 2 is 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Doyle allowed two walks and threw the third strike past three Holy Cross hitters in seven innings of work. Jacob Reid (5IP, 8H, 3R, 3ER, 4BB, 2K, 1HB) started and was tagged with the loss. Vinny Grace (1IP, 1H, 2R, 0ER, 1BB, 1K) came on in relief.
Matt Flynn had three hits for the winners. David Edwards had the only Holy Cross base hit.
