Scott Goosney (7H, 3W, 3K) allowed just one earned run as the Shammies downed the Holy Cross Trinity Pub Crusaders 5-3.
Sean Janes (6IP, 4ER, 10H, 2W, 3K) took the loss after taking over for his brother in the first inning. Mike Janes, who had started, left the game after walking a batter who later scored.
Redmond Hunt of the Shammies and Danny Rice of Holy Cross each had two hits and two RBIs.
The Vikings downed the Fifth Ticket Feildians 5-2 in Sunday’s other game.
Dave Lahey (6IP, 5H, 1R, 3W, 6K) got the win, with Dan Connors (1IP, 2H, 1R, 2K) pitching the final inning for Gonzaga. Feildians starter Adam Warren (5IP, 7H, 4R, 2ER, 2K) took the loss, with Nick Curran (1IP, 1R (unearned), 1W) finishing up for the Double Blues.
The defending champion Shamrocks had entered the weekend alone in first place, but Gonzaga — which lost to the Green and Gold in the 2016 final — caught up with an 11-5 win in a head-to-matchup Friday night at St. Pat’s as veteran Troy Croft drove in four runs for the Vikings.
