A lot of walks led to quite a few runs in Tuesday night’s St. John’s Molson intermediate baseball game between the OMT Shamrocks and Gonzaga Vikings.
In all, there were 26 walks — 19 of them by three Vikings pitchers — in the five-inning game at St. Pat’s Ball Park which saw the Shammies win 13-4.
There were just seven hits, two of them by Gonzaga.
Jaxson Gulliver (1H, 5K) got the win despite giving up a half dozen free passes over three innings.
Josh Fifield (1H, 1W, 1K) finished up for the Shamrocks.
Alan Saunders suffered the loss.
Parker Gulliver reached base three times (single, two walks) for the Shamrocks, scoring twice.
In Tuesday’s other game at St. Pat’s, league newcomers Guards made their debut, dropping a 7-3 decision to the Storm.
Winning pitcher Daniel Toope (8K) and reliever Tyler Hennessey (7K) combined on a 15-strikeout four-hitter for the winners.
Guards starter Ben Halfyard was tagged with loss, giving up five runs before giving way to Aaron Dyke in the fourth inning.
Blake Fudge of the Storm and Brett Dalton of the Guardsmen each had two hits, with Dalton driving in two of his team’s runs.
There was a third intermediate game Tuesday. It was played at Smallwood Field in Mount Pearl, where the Sundance Feildians downed the Knights 9-4.
Brett Glover, who struck out nine in four innings of relief pitching, got the win over Matt Janes, who came on in relief for the Knights.
No other game details were available.
