The OMT Shamrocks started where they left off.

Monday night at St. Pat’s Ball Park, the defending St. John's Molson senior baseball champions emphatically declared they are prepared to defend their title by blanking the Roebothan McKay Marshall Gonzaga Vikings 8-0 in the opening game of the 2019 schedule.

In what was a rematch of the 2018 final series, Shammies starter Scott Goosney (2W, 6K) earned the win, scattering three hits over five innings. Matt Murphy (3K) didn’t allow a hit and just one walk in two innings of relief.

David Lahey (4IP, 10H,2W. 0K) took the loss, allowing six runs, but only two of them were earned.

In fact, they were the only earned runs surrendered by the Vikings, since the two runs given up by reliever Alan Saunders (2IP, 1H, 2W, 0K) were also unearned.

Scott Stockley rapped out three of the Shamrocks’ dozen hits, scoring a run and driving in another.

Peter Madden had two of the Vikings’ three hits.

The second game on the opening-night schedule at St. Pat’s was much closer. In that one, the Knights edged Holy Cross Trinity Pub 8-7.

Sean Beson had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored for the winners as Brandon Jackson (7H, 4ER, 6W, 13K) went the distance on the mound as the Knights held on for the victory.

Holy Cross starter Sean Janes (5H, 4R, 2ER, 1W, 2K) was tagged with the loss, pitching four innings before giving way to relievers Kevin Cashin and Nick Evans.

Bob Parsons of the Knights and Steve Crouse of Holy Cross each had two hits. Crouse drove in three runs.
