St. John’s senior, intermediate leagues pays tribute to Phillips

Tuesday’s senior games and tonight’s two intermediate contests in the St. John’s Molson Baseball League were cancelled as the league pays its respects to Steve Phillips, who died Friday at the age of 57.

A funeral mass takes place 9:30 this morning from Mary Queen of Peace Church.

Phillips’ history in the league goes back almost four decades to his time as a junior player with Gonzaga. He would go on to play in the senior ranks with the Vikings, then coached and umpired in the circuit.
