Gonzaga Vikings beat up on the Knights by a 19-1 count to even their St. John’s Molson Senior Baseball League semifinal Wednesday night at the Smallwood Drive Ball Park in Mount Pearl.

In the other best-of-five semi, Shamrocks downed Holy Cross 5-2 in the opening game.

In Mount Pearl, Peter Madden collected three hits, and Mike O’Neil, Bernie Madden, Andrew Paul, Troy Croft, Gary Dymond and Matt Parsons all had two hits as the Vikings drew even with the Knights 1-1 in the series.

The game lasted only five innings.

Dan Connors started and went one inning, Keith Spurrell came on in relief and recorded the win. Matt Sullivan, the first of three Knights pitchers, took the loss.

At St. Pat’s Ball Park, Scott Goosney pitched the win for the Shammies over Sean Janes. Gerry Stone hit a two-run home run for the Crusaders.

The semifinals resume Saturday at St. Pat’s, with the Gonzaga-Knights series resuming at 1 p.m. followed by Shamrocks and Holy Cross at 3:30.
