In another game, OMT Shamrocks beat Holy Cross Trinity Pub 6-4 to grab a 2-0 lead in their series.

At Mount Pearl’s Smallwood Drive Ball Park, the Knights evened their best-of-five semifinal 1-1 on the strength of a complete-game effort from Whiffen (7IP, 4R, 5W, 1HB, 7K). Keith Spurrell (2.1IP, 2R, 3H, 0W, 0K), in relief, was tagged with the loss. Dave Lahey (4.1IP, 3R, 5H, 4W, 4K) started the game.

Greg Sharpe led the Knights with three hits, and Frank Brien had a pair.

At St. Pat’s Ball Park, the defending champion Shammies took a stranglehold in their semifinal thanks to a fine pitching performance from both Greg Barry and Mattie Murphy.

Barry, a southpaw, started (6IP, 5H, 3R, 2W, 6K) and gave way to Murphy (1IP, 0H, 1R, 1W, 0K), who registered the save.

Sean Janes (7IP, 9H, 6ER, 4W, 4K) was tagged with the loss.

Dave Penney led the Shamrocks with three hits. Justin Kelly was two-for-two in a losing cause.

All four teams are back in action Thursday night at St. Pat’s. Holy Cross and Shamrocks go at 6 p.m., followed by the nightcap at 8:30 p.m. between Knights and Gonzaga.
