Where were you one year ago, May 25, 2019? Times sure were different, as the scenes from Jurassic Park illustrated. Why were people across Canada in a frenzy? Because the Toronto Raptors had just finished off the Milwaukee Bucks, shockingly rallying from a 2-0 series deficit against the NBA’s best regular season team to take the series.
“It’s taken a long time to get here in my career, 13 years, seven years here,” said the heart and soul of the Raptors, Kyle Lowry after a brilliant 17 points, eight assists and five rebounds on 6-for-10 shooting performance.
“I’ve run into one guy for a while (LeBron James). We were given the opportunity — he left — and we beat a really good team in Milwaukee. For me, I’m going to savour the moment, but I’m not satisfied. Our goal is to win the NBA championship. We’re just going to keep getting better and plugging away.”
Lowry was right. They did keep getting better. But before the NBA Finals came a magical night for the team and its fans.
