The Snook family is going to get a host of frequent flyer miles this summer.

Not only will they be attending the IMG Junior World Championships in San Diego July 8-12, they learned this week they will also be jetting off to North Carolina on Aug. 1-3 after Mila qualified for the US Kids Golf World Championship following a victory at the qualifier held at Chester Golf Club in Nova Scotia.

Mila carded a 47, which was under the qualifying benchmark to win the tournament. Freya finished second carding a 51.

Mila was invited by the host committee for one of the two spots to represent the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s Team Canada at Pinehurst, N.C. in the first week of August.

She and her twin sister Freya both competed in the event, played at 1,700 yards for the Girls’ eight-years group.

“I am pretty excited about the win the Chester,” Mila said.

Her father Brent said he is not sure she understands where she is heading or what it is all about.
“I think she is more excited about finally beating her sister in a round of golf,’’ he said.

Each year since 2005, Pinehurst and the surrounding community have played host to hundreds of junior golfers from across the globe. The weeklong experience includes a Parent/Child Tournament, Team Challenge, Parade of Nations, three rounds of championship play and the Closing Ceremony.

Mila will compete on the Longleaf Golf & Family Club (back nine). It will play at 1,800 yards

Sunny San Diego

They will compete in the Girls 7-8 age division at the IMG Junior World Championships to be held in sunny California July 8-12.

Freya qualified for the world championships by winning the Girls 7-8 division at a national tournament in Cambridge, Ont. in early May as she shot a seven over par 43 for the nine-hole event. Freya was accompanied at the event by her sister Mila, who also played great golf, scrambling to card a 53.

Mila thought that was the end of the road for her until she learned she had also been awarded a spot at the IMG Junior World Championships. The girls will represent the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s Team Canada.

The Snook twins are well-rounded eight year-olds. They attend Beachy Cove Elementary in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s and enjoy playing soccer, swimming, piano, basketball and attending Brownies when they are not working on their golf swings.

Freya and Mila both have been working diligently with Bally Haly assistant professional Jake Burt to hone their skills and prepare for the event.

Burt has been training both girls for the past year and will be making the trip to San Diego as part of Team Snook along with Brenda and Brent, the girls mom and dad and several other family members.
