Heather Strong earns berth in Superleague curling playoffs

Heather Strong and her teammates have advanced to the playoff round of the Re/Max SuperLeague at the St. John’s Curling Club after defeating Andrew Symonds (Therapeutic Services Physiotherapy) 8-0 in tiebreaker to decide fourth place.

The tiebreaker was necessary since the teams had both finished with 7-4 round-robin records.
While the Symonds rink held the hammer as a result of an 8-2 win over Strong in their round-robin meeting, it meant little in their rematch.
Strong and Co. will play in the 3-4 Page playoff against third-place finisher Adam Boland (Fun ‘N Fast). The winner of that one will take on Paul Harvey in the semifinal.
Harvey was in first place at the conclusion of the round robin, but was defeated by runner-up Mark Noseworthy in the 1-2 Page game, played last month before the provincial Tankard and Scotties championships. With that victory, Noseworthy advanced directly to the final, leaving Harvey to use the double life that came with a Top 2 finish.
A total of $7,200 in prize money will be distributed in the 12-team Superleague, with the winner taking home as much as $2,245.50.
