The Halifax Hurricanes sure have had the St. John’s Edge’s number so far this season.
The Hurricanes beat the Edge for the fourth time in 2018-19, the latest being a 104-98 victory Sunday afternoon at Scotiabank Centre in downtown Halifax.
St. John’s has only one win against its Nova Scotia rival, a 103-95 decision the end of January at Mile One Centre, which started a three-game win streak that was snapped Sunday.
The Edge played Sunday without Carl English, who was placed on injured reserve as of Saturday. English, who has battled leg and ankle injuries, is not expected to play Tuesday and Wednesday as the Edge wrap up a five-game road trip in Moncton and Saint John, N.B.
Satnam Singh also did not dress for the Edge Sunday, leaving St. John’s with 10 players in uniform. There was no word on Singh’s status.
The Edge trailed by nine, 52-43, at halftime but pulled even with the Hurricanes, 63-63, with four and half minutes remaining in the third quarter.
However, it was Halifax with a 76-67 lead after three quarters.
But the Edge showed some grit in the final 12 minutes of play, getting to within a couple of baskets of the Hurricanes.
But Halifax went on to improve to 15-12, good for second place in the Atlantic Division. The Edge fall to 15-9, but are still first in the Central Division.
All five Edge starters finished in double-digits in scoring, with Glen Davis leading the way with 22 points, his fourth game in a row with 20 or more. Junior Cadougan enjoyed another 20-point performance and Diego Kapelan chipped in with 19. Dez Lee had 15 points and Obie Oleka scored 14 and pulled down 14 boards for the double-double.
The Hurricanes were led by Mike Poole, who scored a game-high 31 points.
