The Conception Bay Blues are in the midst of a long break in their Newfoundland Senior Hockey League schedule, but the Blues have still been active, adding two players in the latest player draft involving the five teams in the NSHL’s East Division.
With the first overall pick, obtained from the Northeast Eagles, the Blues grabbed forward Bradley Greene, a Tilting native who played in the Maritime junior A league before attending St. Mary’s University, where he was a stalwart for the Huskies varsity team and a standout academically.
With their own pick (fourth overall), the Blues nabbed another forward, Upper Island Cove native and Tri-Pen midget product Bradley Bishop who played for the C.B.N. Stars of the St. John’s junior league.
The St. John’s Green Sleeves Caps also had two picks, and took forward Zach Quinlan of Placentia second overall, and defenceman Brandon Mercer of Upper Island Cove, who once suited up with the Maritime league’s Amherst Ramblers, with the next pick.
Quinlan and Mercer are also both former members of the C.B.N. Stars.
With the fifth and final selection, the Clarenville Ford Caribous tabbed former Mount Pearl junior player Mitchell Rumbolt.
Conception Bay didn’t play last weekend and are off this week as well. In fact, the Blues (8-3-0), who last were in action on Jan. 5, aren’t scheduled to play again until Jan. 25.
The other East teams do play this week. St. John’s was in Torbay Friday night to take on the Eagles at Jack Byrne Arena. The Southern Shore Puglisevich Breakers are on the road in Clarenville, playing the Caribous tonight and Sunday afternoon at the Eastlink Events Centre.
