What you need to know about COVID-19: September 18, 2020
Four Sundays to go. After going 8-8 last week with my NFL picks — straight up, not against the spread — it’s going to be tough to reach my goal of 65% success on the season.
But like the Dolphins, and unlike the Cowboys, I’m not folding up shop early. Let’s get right to it for Week 14:
Dallas at Chicago, Thursday
KRYK PICK: Dallas
I’m done picking Dallas. Especially on Thursdays. Team has quit on Jason Garrett. Only Jerry doesn’t see it. Down to 12-4 on Thursdays.
Carolina at Atlanta, Sunday, 1 p.m. EST
KRYK PICK: Atlanta
When you fire your head coach before season’s end, some players start turning their care knobs counter-clockwise. Which ought to be enough for the Falcons to win.
Baltimore at Buffalo, Sunday, 1 p.m. EST
(CTV from Winnipeg eastward; CTV2 BC, Alberta; via CBS)
KRYK PICK: Baltimore
The Bills have four chances to hit the 10-win victory plateau for the first time since 1999. It could come this week, but the Ravens are playing better than any team has this season.
Cincinnati at Cleveland, Sunday, 1 p.m. EST
KRYK PICK: Cleveland
The Battle of Ohio’s losing teams. Ninth-year veteran Andy Dalton remains the Bengals’ QB, after being benched for rookie Ryan Finley for three weeks. Browns should win.
Washington at Green Bay, Sunday, 1 p.m. EST
KRYK PICK: Green Bay
The Redskins have won their last two games with a lot of help from the crumbling opposition, the Lions and Panthers. The Packers, at Lambeau, won’t be so giving.
Denver at Houston, Sunday, 1 p.m. EST
KRYK PICK: Houston
Rookie Denver QB Drew Lock’s first NFL road game, let alone first NFL road start. The Texans do maddeningly play up or down to their competition, but should win this one easily.
Detroit at Minnesota, Sunday, 1 p.m. EST
(TSN; via FOX)
KRYK PICK: Minnesota
Only thing to worry about with this pick is the Lions seem to jump up out of nowhere and knock off a much better Vikings team about once every other year. But not this year.
San Francisco at New Orleans, Sunday, 1 p.m. EST
(CTV BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan; CTV2 Toronto, Ottawa, London/Windsor, Atlantic; via FOX)
KRYK PICK: San Francisco
The Niners are one rugged team. Last year’s Saints were that too, and would beat this San Francisco team. But something’s amiss with this year’s Saints. Niners are tougher. And better.
Miami at N.Y. Jets, Sunday, 1 p.m. EST
KRYK PICK: New York
Don’t be surprised one bit if FitzMagic and the Dolphins knock off the Jets. But ya gotta think Adam Gase won’t get swept by the lowly club that fired him less than 12 months ago.
Indianapolis at Tampa Bay, Sunday, 1 p.m. EST
KRYK PICK: Tampa Bay
The Bucs might be playing their best ball in years. That’s what a two-game win streak, and three wins in four games, means. These are two teams now going in different directions.
L.A. Chargers at Jacksonville, Sunday, 4:05 p.m. EST
(TSN; via FOX)
KRYK PICK: Los Angeles
Doug Marrone is done. When he starts changing QBs too quickly, like Mike Keenan did goalies, you know he’s overwhelmed by the pressure. Chargers are just better.
Pittsburgh at Arizona, Sunday, 4:25 p.m. EST
KRYK PICK: Pittsburgh
Kyler Murray and the Cards seem to have hit a wall, after playing so competitively and above their heads through much of the year. Devlin Hodges and the Steelers win a close one.
Kansas City at New England, Sunday, 4:25 p.m. EST
(CTV nationally except Atlantic; CTV2 Atlantic; via CBS)
KRYK PICK: New England
The Chiefs’ still-terrible defence is just the thing Tom Brady and the struggling Patriots attack need for their annual December jump-start. Expect a strong outing by Sony Michel.
Tennessee at Oakland, Sunday, 4:25 p.m. EST
KRYK PICK: Tennessee
There will be a ton of running, by both teams. Titans QB Ryan Tannehill sure looks legit, and surely there’s nothing about the crumbling Raiders defence that scares him.
Seattle at L.A. Rams, Sunday, 8:20 p.m. EST
(TSN, CTV2; via NBC)
KRYK PICK: Los Angeles
Gotta think time the Seahawks’ luck in one-score games runs out. Most of their 10 wins have been late-game coin flips. The Rams offence got uncorked at Arizona. And this is it for them.
N.Y Giants at Philadelphia, Monday, 8:15 p.m. EST
(TSN; via ESPN)
KRYK PICK: Philadelphia
Eli Manning for sure to start at QB for the Giants. Daniel Jones seems soon to return from a high ankle sprain, so this might be Eli’s last ever start. Eagles could lose to anyone, but not this night.

BYES THIS WEEK: None. All done.
SEASON RECORD: 118-73-1 (.617), through Week 13.
