REGINA, Sask. — The Saskatchewan Roughriders are dealing with injury issues in advance of Saturday’s game against the visiting Calgary Stampeders.
Riders head coach Craig Dickenson said after Thursday’s closed practice that receiver K.D. Cannon and linebacker Sam Hurl are both likely to be out on Saturday. Cannon is nursing a groin injury, while Hurl’s injury was undisclosed.
The status of cornerback Nick Marshall (ankle), placekicker Brett Lauther (groin) and returner Christion Jones (undisclosed) is to be determined. Dickenson said the team would hold off as long as possible for all three players before making a decision.
“We’re going to wait and see on Brett,” Dickenson said. “We’re going to give him the whole week off and see how he felt. Christion was here at the start (of Thursday’s practice) and then he went in to get some treatment. We’ve been taking it easy with Christion Jones and Nick Marshall and really making it more of a mental week. We think they’re going to be fine.”
Saturday’s game may mark the Riders’ debut of middle linebacker Solomon Elimimian, who has been sidelined while dealing with a calf issue. Receiver Manny Arceneaux won’t be on the active roster. Arceneaux is still recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him for half of the 2018 season with the B.C. Lions.
Receiver Justin McInnis was practising with the starters on Wednesday and will likely get the call with Cannon on the sideline. Brayden Lenius may be activated after being a healthy scratch to start the regular season.
The Riders signed Gabriel Ferraro on Wednesday in case Lauther isn’t available.
