Stephen Vogt capped an eight-run eighth inning with a three-run home run Saturday night as the visiting San Francisco Giants rallied from behind to beat the Oakland Athletics 10-5 in the opener of a two-game series.
Kevin Pillar broke a 4-4 tie with a two-run double, one of seven hits the Giants pieced together against five A's relievers in the eighth, helping San Francisco end a four-game losing skid and Oakland's three-game winning streak.
After the A's had scored twice against the San Francisco bullpen in the bottom of the seventh to go up 4-2, Buster Posey ignited the game-swinging rally with a one-out single off former teammate Yusmeiro Petit (3-3).
Consecutive singles by Alex Dickerson and Evan Longoria made it 4-3, before A.J. Puk came on and unleashed a game-tying wild pitch, allowing Dickerson to score.
Puk went on to walk the only batter he faced, pinch hitter Austin Slater, and Pillar followed with his go-ahead hit off Lou Trivino.
Donovan Solano and Brandon Crawford added singles to make it 7-4, and Vogt's two-out blast off Ryan Buchter, his eighth homer of the year, completed the eight-run inning and blew the game open.
Sam Coonrod (3-0), who got the final two outs of the A's two-run seventh, was credited with the win.
Marcus Semien and Matt Olson had singled in runs in Oakland's seventh.
The game began as a pitcher's duel between the Giants' Madison Bumgarner and A's Chris Bassitt. Seeking to beat the A's for the second time in 12 days, Bumgarner worked five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out five.
Bassitt took a 2-1 lead into the sixth, but surrendered a double to Dickerson and two-out RBI single to Longoria before exiting. He was charged with two runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out five without issuing a walk.
Dickerson finished with three hits, while Pillar, Longoria and Crawford had two apiece for the Giants, who also won the first game of a two-game series against the A's last week in San Francisco.
One of Crawford's hits was a solo home run, his 10th of the season, off Bassitt in the fifth inning after the Giants had fallen behind 2-0.
Mark Canha had a homer for the A's, his 20th of the year, to open the game's scoring in the second inning. He finished with two hits, as did teammates Semien, Matt Chapman and Josh Phegley, while Jurickson Profar scored three times.
