Two curlers who have already represented Newfoundland and Labrador at national junior (under-21) curling championships will be skipping the province’s entries at the 2018 Canadian U18 championships this spring.
Mackenzie Glynn’s rink out of the Re/Max Centre (St. John's Curling Club) took the provincial U18 women’s crown with a 5-4 win over Sarah McNeil Lamswood of the host Caribou Club in Stephenville Sunday.
It is the third straight U18 title for Glynn, who also skipped the team to the N.L. junior crown in December and went on to finish sixth at the Canadian championships in Shawinigan, Que., in January.
Glynn’s win in the final of five-team provincial U18 event meant there will not be two McNeil Lamswood teams at the nationals, to be held in St. Andrews, N.B., April 9-14.
Ryan McNeil Lamswood, Sarah’s brother, claimed the N.L. under-18 men’s crown in his hometown of Stephenville, guiding his team — also out of the Re/Max Centre — to a 6-4 win over Nathan Young’s St. John’s rink. McNeil Lamswood scored three points in the eighth and final end for the victory.
Ryan McNeil Lamswood was the third for Greg Smith’s team that won the provincial junior men’s championships in 2015 and 2016.
