Goulds native Brad Peddle has been named the Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey coach of the year for the second time in his career.

In his 13th season as head coach of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men, the 43-year-old Peddle has guided the two-time defending AUS champion and nationally No. 3-ranked X-Men to a 22-4-4 regular-season record and a second-place finish in the conference.

That gave the X-Men a direct bye to the conference playoff semifinal round which begins tonight against Acadia.

Special teams have had a lot to do with St. FX’s success this season. The X-Men had the best power-play percentage (25.7%) and more power play goals (45) than any other team in the country. What’s more, their penalty kill percentage of .910 was also best in the nation.

At St. FX. Peddle has a career regular-season record of 195-172-1 and an overall record of 235-206-1 including regular season, AUS playoffs and U Sports championship tourmament games.

Peddle, who earned his first AUS coach of the year nod in 2015-16, becomes the Atlantic conference nominee for the Father George Kehoe Memorial Award as U Sports coach of the year, an honour he claimed in 2016.
