The Brad Gushue curling team from St. John’s carried a 2-0 record into Thursday night’s ninth draw at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Tour Challenge Tier I event in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Gushue, Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant and Geoff Walker were set to play Winnipeg’s Jason Gunnlaugson.
The rink from the Remax Centre/St. John’s Curling Club beat Rick Rouhonen of Alaska 7-4 and followed up with a 10-8 decision over Toronto’s John Epping.
Gushue are Co. are the defending champs.
Playoffs are set for Saturday, with the final going 5:30 p.m. (NL time) Sunday.
