The high-flying Mount Pearl Blades improved their record to 9-1 in the St. John’s Junior Hockey League with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Avalon Capitals Monday night at the Goulds Arena.

Brandon Short made 38 saves as the Blades received goals from Mitch McGrath, Jared Ostroski, Michael Broders and Michael Maloney. Grant Thompson and Colin O’Neill both drew two assists each.

The first-place Blades play twice this weekend, Friday in Bay Roberts against the C.B.N. Stars and Sunday at home against the Southern Shore Breakers.
