The Mount Pearl Blades defeated the St. John’s Caps 9-8 via the shootout Sunday night in one of a handful of Mary Brown’s St. John’s Junior Hockey League games held over the weekend.
At The Glacier in Mount Pearl, Mount Pearl’s Michael Broders (three goals, one assist) and Kyle McGrath of St. John’s (three and two) were Jungle Jim’s players of the game. Mitch Rogers of the Blades and the Caps’ Matthew Redmond both made 33 saves … At the Goulds Arena, the Avalon Capitals got by the Trinity-Placentia Flyers 7-6 in another game that went to a shootout. Player of the game Coady Barron had three goals for the winners, and Jake Abbott had a goal and two assists. Justin Edison, his team’s top player, had three goals, and William Hickey scored once and assisted on two others … Brad Connors potted two goals and assisted on another, and Nathan Tucker collected four helpers as CBR Renegades trimmed the Southern Shore Breakers 7-2 Saturday at the C.B.S. Arena. The Renegades scored four times on the power play … A.J. Doyle scored three times as the Breakers dumped C.B.N. Stars 7-2 Friday night at the Southern Shore Arena …
