The Mount Pearl Blades defeated the St. John’s Caps 9-8 via the shootout Sunday night in one of a handful of Mary Brown’s St. John’s Junior Hockey League games held over the weekend.

At The Glacier in Mount Pearl, Mount Pearl’s Michael Broders (three goals, one assist) and Kyle McGrath of St. John’s (three and two) were Jungle Jim’s players of the game. Mitch Rogers of the Blades and the Caps’ Matthew Redmond both made 33 saves … At the Goulds Arena, the Avalon Capitals got by the Trinity-Placentia Flyers 7-6 in another game that went to a shootout. Player of the game Coady Barron had three goals for the winners, and Jake Abbott had a goal and two assists.
