Granted, there’s a long winter ahead for the Breakers, but coach Dale Sullivan so far likes what he sees.

“It’s certainly much more enjoyable being around the rink these days,” said Sullivan, a Dallas Stars draft pick back in 2001 after three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Breakers won handily over the weekend, beating the C.B.N. MoorFrost Stars 10-2 at home Friday night and Avalon Roebothan, McKay, Marshall Capitals 7-3 Saturday night at the Goulds Arena.

“I know it’s early in the year,” said Sullivan, “but we’re much better than we were last season. And our new guys are an upgrade from last season.”

Two Breakers — Peter Kavanagh and Liam Hynes — are one-two in league scoring with 11 points and 10 points respectively. Newcomer Blake Dalton, who played junior A in Nepean, Ont. in the Central Canada junior circuit last season, has five goals in three games. Rookies Kieran O’Driscoll has three goals in three games and A.J. Doyle has two.

The Shore also has defenceman Matt Templeman in their lineup. Templeman, who has three goals and five points, attended Moncton’s training camp this season after going in the 13th round, 230th overall, to the Wildcats in the QMJHL draft this year.

Templeman captained Newbridge Academy’s under-18 squad in Lower Sackville, N.S., last season.

Friday, Dalton had three goals and Hynes scored twice against the Stars. Justin David, O’Driscoll, Doyle, Donovan Warren and Nick Callahan added singles. Devon Whelan and Ryon Williams scored for C.B.N.

Saturday night, it was Peter Kavanagh with two goals and three assists, while Shayne Kavanagh had two. Singles came from Hynes, who also had two helpers, Templeman and Doyle. Avalon goalscorers were Brett Vokey, Jordan Freake and Zac Tucker.
