The Clarenville Caribous are one win away from winning the fourth Herder Memorial Trophy championship in franchise history.
The Caribous grabbed a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven provincial senior hockey championship Friday night with a 4-1 win over the St. John’s Caps at Torbay’s Jack Byrne Arena.
Clarenville can wrap things up with a win in Game 4 7:30 Saturday night at Jack Byrne. If a Game 5 is required, it will be played 2 p.m. Sunday in Torbay.
Brad Crann scored twice Friday night for the Central West Senior Hockey League champions, with singles coming from Mason Reid and Kenny Mahoney.
Matt Fewer had the only goal for the East Coast Senior Hockey League champion Caps.
Jason Churchill was stellar in the nets for the Caribous, making 42 saves in his first action of the series. Kyle Downer stopped 29 shots for the Caps.
