Close decisions in NL U11 and U13 ball hockey finals in Bay Roberts

The hometown entry from Bay Roberts won the provincial under-13 ball hockey championship Sunday at Bay Arena, defeating the CeBee Stars 3-1 in a game that was a one-goal affair until a late empty-netter.

It was an even more dramatic finish in the under-11 provincial final as the Exploits Valley Chiefs edged Hickey’s Timber Mart of Paradise 4-3 in a game that went to double overtime. The winning goal came on a penalty shot.

Newfoundland and Labrador Ball Hockey Championships

In the semifinals of the eight-team U11 event, Hickey’s downed Bay Roberts, while Exploits Valley got past the CeeBees.

In the U13 semifinals, Bay Roberts beat the Metro Minor Ball Hockey League United, while The CeeBees defeated another MMBHL entry, the Raiders, in the second semi of the five-team division.

Next up on the local ball hockey scene are the national B, C and D championships, beginning Thursday in Conception Bay South.
