The Clarenville Caribous couldn’t capitalize on an opportunity to take over first place in the Central West Senior Hockey League as they fell 6-3 to the Gander Flyers Sunday afternoon at the Eastlink Events Centre in Clarenville.
The Caribous had moved to within a point of first-place Gander with their own 6-3 victory over the visiting Flyers Saturday night in the league’s first game after the Christmas break, but Clarenville couldn’t produce a similar result in the follow-up match.
The Caribous will have a couple of weeks to think about the lost chance. They are off next weekend while the Flyers and Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts host the East Coast Senior Hockey League’s Northeast Eagles and St. John’s Caps in interlocking games.
