The Paradise native, a former St. John’s major junior Fog Devil who went on to play two seasons of Atlantic University Sport hockey with the St. Thomas Tommies, spent three seasons with the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts from 2010 to 2013, helping the team win a Herder in 2011.
He last played in the provincial league in 2013-14 when he split his season between the Mount Pearl Blades and C.B.N. CeeBee Stars.
The Corner Brook Royals passed with the second overall pick, as did the Cataracts with the fourth, but in between the Clarenville Caribous picked up Tyler Whiffen. The former Central IcePak major midget netminder won a Herder Memorial Trophy last season as the backup to big brother AJ with their hometown Cataracts.
In Round 2, the Flyers traded away the first selection to the Caribous for the rights to Mitch Oake. Clarenville then took defenceman Murray Bavis of Mount Pearl and used the third pick to get Jonathan Organ of Stephenville.
All teams passed in the third round, ending the draft.
