The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts peewee girls team has been selected to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at this year’s Bell Capital Cup hockey tournament in Ottawa.
They will play in the Canada 150 division.
The Department of Canadian Heritage and the Ottawa International Hockey Festival presented the Hockey on the Hill contest, in partnership with the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club with support from Hockey Canada.
Peewee boys and girls house league teams from across Canada were eligible to enter.
Contest applicants were asked to show why their team should represent their region in the division through a written essay and a video submission.
Thirty-two peewee boys and girls teams representing all provinces and territories were selected in all. Judging was based on creativity, energy level and Canadian spirit.
The Avalon Malibus peewee boys team will also represent the province at the event, which will take place from Dec. 28-31.
The prize includes round-trip travel to Ottawa, accommodations, ground transportation, commemorative Canada 150 hockey jerseys and the chance to play at least one game at the Canada 150 rink on Parliament Hill.
