Newfoundland Growlers goaltender Michael Garteig is the CCM ECHL goaltender of the week for the period ending Nov. 11.
Garteig went 3-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .971 in three appearances last week as the Growlers extended their winning streak to six games.
The 27-year-old turned aside 30 shots in a 3-1 win against Worcester on Tuesday, made 26 saves in a 4-2 victory over Manchester Friday and stopped all 44 shots he faced in a 3-0 win against the Monarchs Saturday.
A native of Prince George, B.C., Garteig leads the ECHL with eight wins, is fifth with a .930 save percentage and eighth with a 2.26 goals-against average.
Garteig has appeared in 58 career ECHL games with Newfoundland, Kalamazoo and Alaska posting an overall record of 31-20-5 with two shutouts, a 3.22 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. He also has appeared in eight career games with Utica of the American Hockey League.
Prior to turning pro, Garteig went 78-25-16 in 124 career games at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., with 19 shutouts, a 1.96 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.
Also nominated for the award was rookie pro Evan Fitzpatrick of St. John’s. Fitzpatrick, who is with the Tula Oilers, won a Memorial Cup with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan last season. He currently resides in Lower Sackville, N.S.
