The winner of the tournament will represent the province at the Bell Aliant Atlantic Regional Championship being hosted by the Conception Bay Regional Minor Hockey Association in C.B.S. from April 6-9.
Teams competing include the host Tri-Pen Ice, Central Ice Pak, Western Kings, St. John’s Hitmen and the Tri Com Thunder. The Thunder are the host team for the Atlantics and therefore have a berth in this event, meaning one of the other four entries will join them at the Atlantics.
The provincial tourney features a single round robin followed by a championship round on Sunday.
Twenty-five years ago, the host CeeBees Minor Hockey Association claimed the peewee Atlantics title with a team coached by provincial Hockey Hall of Famer Dick Power that included future Stanley Cup winner Danny Cleary. The anniversary of the accomplishment will be recognized during the open ceremonies being held at 12:45 p.m. today.
