The Trinity-Placentia Flyers and CBR Renegades are going the distance in their best-of-five St. John’s Junior Hockey League quarter-final series.
It’s the only series yet to be decided, as the Southern Shore Breakers and C.B.N. Stars both advanced to the semifinals following weekend play.
The Mount Pearl Blades, who finished first in the regular season, advanced last week by completing a sweep of the Northeast Eagles.
Game 5 of the Flyers-Renegades series goes 8 p.m. Tuesday at the C.B.S. Arena.
Trinity-Placentia forced the deciding game with a 5-0 win Sunday at the Whitbourne Stadium. Chris Smith provided shutout goaltending for the Flyers, who received two goals from Justin Edison and singles from Tyler Whittle, Cole Thorne and Lyndon Thorne.
Saturday night, CBR trimmed Trinity-Placentia 3-1 on goals from Blake Fudge, Drew Stonehouse and Lucas Lush. Edison replied.
The Breakers swept the Avalon Capitals 3-0 in their series with a pair of wins over the weekend. Saturday at the Goulds Arena, Shayne Kavanagh had the hat trick, and Liam Hynes collected assists on all three goals as the Breakers got by the Capitals 3-2. Eric Hutchings and Brett Vokey scored the Avalon goals.
Friday at the Southern Shore Arena, Kavanagh and Hynes each had two goals and three assists as the Breakers won 8-3. Kieran O’Driscoll had two goals and a pair of helpers, and Donavon Warren had two goals. Blake Dalton collected three assists. Vokey, Jordan Freake and Ian Predham replied for the Capitals.
At the Bay Arena in C.B.N., the Stars clinched their semifinal sweep with a 6-3 win over the St. John’s Caps. Mark Barrett led the way with two goals, and Mitchell Lewis, Christian Dawe, Cass Warren and Ryan Petten potted singles for the home side. Nathan Peters, Jordan Richards and Kyle Rumsey scored for the Caps.
