While a Mitch Marner deal remains elusive, the Maple Leafs have inked newcomers Cody Ceci and Alexander Kerfoot to contract extensions.

It was announced Thursday morning that defenceman Ceci has signed a one-year extension that carries an average annual value of US$4.5 million, while forward Kerfoot is aboard on a four-year extension of $14 million that carries an AAV of $3.5 million.

Ceci was arbitration eligible with the Ottawa Senators before Monday’s trade, a situation the Sens were anxious to avoid for a second straight year. He made $4.3 million last season and hopes a productive first season in Toronto leads to a longer deal.

Ceci had 26 points in 74 games with Ottawa in 2018-19. In 440 NHL regular season games through six seasons, he has recorded 118 points and three assists in 25 career Stanley Cup playoff games.

Kerfoot, 24, was acquired Monday from the Colorado Avalanche with defenceman Tyson Barrie. He appeared in 78 games for the Avalanche in ‘18-19 and recorded 42 points in his final year of an entry level deal.

In other Leaf developments, veteran Marlie Colin Greening has retired, while two other members of the farm team’s leadership group have moved on to other AHL teams, forward Chris Mueller to Syracuse and defenceman Vincent LoVerde to Hartford.
