Perhaps not surprisingly, the Mount Pearl Blades are the first team to advance to the second round of the St. John’s Junior Hockey League playoffs.
The first-place Blades, who lost just one game in the regular season, defeated the visiting Northeast Eagles 9-2 Tuesday night at the Glacier to claim their best-of-five quarter-final series 3-0.
The CBN Stars can become the second team to claim a semifinal berth if they defeat the St. John’s Caps Friday night (7:30) at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts. The Stars hold a 2-0 lead in that series.
There is action in another quarter-final Friday. That will be at the Southern Shore Arena, where the Breakers take a 1-0 series lead into their 7:45 p.m. matchup with the Avalon Capitals.
Play in the final quarter-final resumes Saturday. In that one, the Trinity-Placentia Flyers and CBR Renegades are tied 1-1 heading into Game 3 (7 p.m.) at the Conception Bay South Arena.
