The Clarenville Caribous swept a pair of contests from the Northeast Eagles, and the Gander Flyers and Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts split a weekend series as provincial senior hockey resumed its schedule over the weekend following the Christmas break.

The Caribous got two goals from Brad Crann to beat the Eagles 6-2 Sunday at the Eastlink Events Centre in Clarenville. Saturday, the homestanding Caribous got goals from seven different players — Crann, Keith Delaney, Dustin Flight, Mike Dyke, Mason Reid, Dustin Russell and Ken Mahoney — to beat Northeast 7-3. Mike Halitzki, Justin David and Paul Cuff replied.

At the Steele Community Centre in Gander Sunday, Andew Ryan potted the winning shootout goal as the Flyers beat the visiting Cataracts 3-2. Andrew Paul and Paul Hutchings scored in regulation time for the Flyers, who had held a 2-0 lead. Alex Dalley and Sam Housell tallied for the visitors.

At the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium Saturday, the Cataracts stoned the Flyers 5-0 with Kyle McGuirk scoring a pair of goals. Singles came from Brandon Bussey, Michael Brent and Danny Wicks.

In a Saturday evening game at the C.B.S. Arena, the Blues trimmed the St. John’s Caps 9-1. Lucas Lush and Tyler Adams both scored twice for C.B.S.
