Team captain Jacob Evans scored just 14 seconds into as the visiting Tri-Pen Osprey defeated the Central IcePak 4-3 in provincial major midget hockey league action Sunday in Lewisporte.
The result gave the teams a split of their two-game weekend series; Central won 4-1 on Saturday at the Lewisporte Arena. However, the IcePak prevailed in terms of points — 4-2 — because of the OT result.
Meanwhile at Goulds Arena, the league-leading Western Kings edged the East Coast Blizzard 2-1 Sunday after posting a 6-4 victory Saturday.
Western’s domination thus far— the team has won 21 of its 22 outings — is such that even though the league’s regular-season schedule goes until February, the Kings can still clinch first place well before Christmas.
The second-place St. John’s Maple Leafs had the weekend off as the league resumed play after a break to allow teams to travel to the Monctonian tournament.
