Gustav Nyquist scored on a penalty shot at 1:57 of overtime, and the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 Monday night.
The penalty shot was awarded after Toronto's Mitch Marner hooked Nyquist on a breakaway. Nyquist responded by scoring his second goal of the season.
Riley Nash, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Alexander Wennberg also scored for Columbus. Nick Foligno had two assists. It was the seventh straight game decided by one goal for the Blue Jackets, who improved to 2-2 in overtime this season. They lost in overtime Friday and Saturday.
Auston Matthews had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs while Kasperi Kapanen and William Nylander added a goal each. Jake Muzzin and Andreas Johnsson had two assists apiece.
Joonas Korpisalo stopped 28 shots for Columbus.
Frederik Andersen made 34 saves in his 200th game for the Maple Leafs.
Nash scored a short-handed goal at 2:31 of the first period, 16 seconds after Blue Jackets center Boone Jenner was called for holding. Nash took the puck away from Marner in the Toronto end before working a give-and-go with Foligno that he completed with his first goal of the season.
Dubois put Columbus ahead 2-0 with his fourth goal of the season, working the puck from behind the net and jamming it past Andersen at 5:52 of the opening period.
Kapanen scored his second goal of the season -- both short-handed -- at 11:25 of the first. With Toronto's Johnsson serving a slashing penalty, Marner took the puck into the Columbus zone on a breakout and flipped a backhand pass to Kapanen, who had just left the bench to join the rush.
The first period ended 2-2 after Matthews redirected Johnsson's shot for his eighth goal of the season at 19:21.
Nylander gave Toronto a 3-2 lead at 19:43 of the second with his third goal of the season, knocking the puck in from the edge of the crease after Johnsson nudged the puck toward him. Matthews did the work, keeping the puck in the Columbus zone before working it to the left circle and putting it on goal.
Columbus tied the score on Wennberg's second goal this season at 10:09 of the third on a rebound during a power play. Frederik Gauthier was off for tripping.
Andersen stopped Cam Atkinson on a breakaway at 17:22 of the third.
