The O’Donel Patriots improved to 3-0 Wednesday at the annual Royal Newfoundland Regiment Memorial High School Hockey Tournament — the Beaumont Hamel Centennial Cup — being held in Paradise this week.

Lukas Forward had a goal and two assists and Brandon Knight contributed two goals as the Patriots downed the Holy Trinity Tigers 6-1 in one of four games played Wednesday at the Paradise Double Ice Complex.

Two of the results involved shutouts: the Holy Heart Highlanders downed the Holy Spirit Falcons 4-0, and the Gonzaga Vikings blasted the Carbonear Collegiate Sentinels 11-0 in a game that saw Regan Seymour and Evan Knight register three-goal games, with Seymour adding two assists.

Eric Knight, Murray Byrne and Kyle Rumsey also had three-point games for the Vikings.
In Wednesday’s other contest, Nathan Kelly had two first-period goals to lead the Mount Pearl Huskies to a 4-2 victory over the St. Kevin’s Mavericks.

Preliminary play in the 16-team event continues today and Friday.
