The Newfoundland and Labrador Major Midget Hockey League opens its playoffs in metro St. John’s this weekend.
Both semifinals are best-of-seven affairs, with the first two games slated this weekend. After that, the league breaks for two weeks for the 2019 Canada Winter Games, in which some players from each team are participating.
The playoffs resume the March 1-3 weekend.
The first-place East Coast Blizzard play host to the fourth-place Tri-Pen Osprey 7 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Both games are at the Goulds Arena. Meanwhile, second-place St. John’s Maple Leafs entertain the third-place Western Kings 8 o’clock Saturday night at The Glacier II in Mount Pearl, and 11 a.m. Sunday at the Southern Shore Arena in Mobile.
