The Newfoundland Growlers saw their modest ECHL win streak snapped at two games Saturday night as the Worcester Railers rolled over the Growlers 5-1 at Mile One Centre.

The loss came on the heels of a 5-2 Newfoundland win Friday night.

The Railers scored two goals in the second period Saturday for a 3-1 lead, and they never looked back.

Josh Holmstrom, Matthew Gaudreau, Tyler Barnes, Yanick Turcotte and Ryan Hitchcock had the goals for the Railers.

Marcus Power replied for the Growlers, his 16th on the year.

Michael Garteig stopped 20 of 25 shots for Newfoundland.

The Growlers are 29-13-2-0 and leading the North Division.

The series with Worcester was the first of seven straight games at home for the Growlers. Up next are the Brampton Beast Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Friday, James Melindy’s timing was spot on for his first goal as a Newfoundland Growler, snapping a 2-2 tie mid-way through the third period to lead the Growlers to a 5-2  win over the Railers.

The Growlers also made a winner of Eamon McAdam, who has been with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies most of the year.

McAdam, who was reassigned to Newfoundland just over two weeks ago and made 27 saves Friday, started the first game of the year for the Growlers, a 3-2 win over Florida, but has been in Toronto ever since.

Derian Plouffe, Zach O’Brien, Hudson Elynuik and Scott Pooley, the latter two into empty nets, also scored for the Growlers.

Nick Sorkin and Tyler Barnes had the Railers goals.
