Springdale native Abby Clarke named Canadian university female athlete of the week

Fifth-year player for St. Thomas Tommies has more wins than any other netminder in the country

Her statistics are among the best of any goaltender in Canadian university women’s hockey and her most recent contributions to those numbers have made Newfoundlander Abby Clarke the U Sport national female of the week.
Clarke, who is from Springdale, is in her fifth season with  St. Thomas Tommies, the Fredericton, N.B., school ranked fifth in the nation in women’s hockey.
The Tommies own a 16-3 record and sit atop the Atlantic universities conference.
Clarke has started 15 games, winning 13 of them, including two last week, backstopping her team over the Saint Mary’s Huskies and the UPEI Panthers, making just 76 saves in total and allowing just a single goal.
In ta 2-0 win over the UPEI, she posted her fifth shutout of the season.
With the results, Clarke improved her goal- against average to 1.05 and save percentage to .961, both the best in the Atlantic conference and best in the entire nation amongst CIS goalies who have made 10 or more appearances this season.
Her 13 wins also lead the country.
