St. John's Junior Hockey League: Cahill, Thorne help Flyers clip Eagles

Goaltender Tyler Cahill stopped all 26 shots he faced, and Lyndon Thorne scored a pair of goals as the Trinity-Placentia I.J. Smith Home Hardware Flyers blanked Northeast Eagles 5-0 in St. John’s Junior Hockey League play Sunday.

The Breakers still lead the junior circuit at 12-3-0-1, but the 11-4 Caps are nipping a their heals, with only three points separating the two. Dylan McKenzie and Matthew Smith led St. John’s with a goal and three assists apiece. Ian Woolfrey made 42 saves for the Caps … In Bay Roberts Friday, Ryan Dawson fired four goals as the C.B.N. MoorFrost Stars beat the CBR Assante Wealth Management Renegades 5-3 at the Bay Arena …
