Cody Donaghey is going from being a Bear to a Barracuda.
The 22 year-old defenceman from St. John’s has been recalled from the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears to the American Hockey League’s San Jose Barracudas.
Both teams are affiliates of the National Hockey League’s San Jose Sharks.
Donaghey has 23 points on nine goals and 14 assists in 34 games for Orlando this season.
The six-foot-one, 195-pound rearguard became part of the Sharks’ organization over the summer as part of the trade that brought star defenceman Erik Karlsson to San Jose from the Ottawa Senators.
Last season, his first as a pro, Donaghey appeared in one game for the AHL’s Belleville Senators. The rest of the 2017-18 campaign was spent with the ECHL’s Brampton Beat, for whom he had nine goals and seven assists in 54 games.
