After indicating on Monday that everyone was healthy in his lineup, Dallas Stars head coach Rick Bowness sent out Anton Khudobin ahead of Ben Bishop to start in goal against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
That, of course, had many speculating.
The 34-year-old Khudobin had played two of the Stars’ seeding-round games, including Sunday’s 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues which saw him face 22 shots. The win over the defending champions allowed the Stars to clinch the third seed in the Western Conference for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs .
Against the Flames, Khudobin was on the losing end of the ice after allowing three goals on 26 shots.
Bishop, meanwhile, was watching from the bench.
“It was an easy decision (Tuesday) — Dobbie’s coming off a big win and played very well,” Bowness said in his post-game media conference via Zoom. “Bish was unfit to play on Sunday, and now he needs a couple of days of practise.
“We’re playing four games in five-and-a-half days — we’re going to need both goalies. But that was a pretty easy decision going into (Tuesday) with Dobbie coming off of a win against St. Louis and giving Bish another couple days to get ready to play.”
