A team of 15- and 16-year-old players from Newfoundland and Labrador is in Boisbriand, Que., just north of Montreal, for the 2019 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Gatorade Excellence Challenge which opens today.

The showcase event is a six-team tournament featuring Newfoundland and Labrador, P.E.I., Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and two teams from Quebec which allows QMJHL scouts one last look at 2019 draft-eligible players.

Management from all 18 QMJHL teams will be on hand to watch each team play five games apiece at the Centre d’Excellence Sports Rousseau Arena.

Members of the Newfoundland and Labrador team are:

Forwards: Bladley Blake, Kobe Burt, Nathan Carter, Jack Connors, Zachary Dean, Ryan Greene, Brett Hudson, Patrick Hurley, Vijay Sahajpal, Chase Wellon, Jordan Winter

Defence: James Clarke, Nolan Cleary, Dawson Crane, Ben James, Drew Locke, Connor Shortall

Goaltenders: William Dyke, Evan Martin

Coach Mike Lee, assistants Jeff Brewer and Patrick Yetman, goalie coach Chad Brinson, therapist Matthew Moore, trainer Ed Foley, director of hockey operations Gerry Wicks
